Broadband over Power Line (BPL)
Broadband over Power Line (BPL), is Internet access deployed over ordinary power lines. An ethernet cable connects a computer to a BPL "modem" that has been plugged into any 110 volt electrical outlet in a building "lit" with BPL.

Phase 1: The initial BPL launch is in Grand Ledge Michigan and other nearby towns providing broadband Internet to about 15K homes and businesses during the fourth quarter of 2007 and first quarter of 2008*.
Phase 2: Each month, more and more Michigan homes and businesses in Consumers Energy territory will have their local power lines "lit" with internet access. Up to 1 million homes and businesses will be passed by 2010. These are potential subscribers for Founding ISPs that have partnered with visp.net to provide BPL.

Better Network:
Most broadband networks are oversubscribed by up to 100 to one which means subscribers experience much slower connections during peak hours. Our BPL has been architected to be highly available even during peak hours. Subscribers will actually get the bandwidth and quality of service they expect.
Faster Connection:
Now you can offer a network superior to other broadband alternatives, in part because of its symmetrical download and uploads speeds, which means much higher performance than cable, DSL or Satellite. Subscribers will enjoy improved VoIP, Video conferencing, email uploads, file sharing, gaming and more.

* Wide-scale rollout of Broadband over PowerLine is being beta tested with this rollout in Michigan. The actual rollout schedule may vary.
